About Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara

Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is one of the largest educational institutions in Asia. It was founded in 1919 by Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil with the noble aim of integrating socially and economically disadvantaged communities into the mainstream through education. In recognition of his immense contribution to the field of education, the Government of India honoured him with the prestigious Padma Bhushan Award. Currently, Rayat Shikshan Santh operates an impressive network of 751 branches, which includes 42 colleges, 441 secondary schools, 7 training colleges, 52 primary schools (24 of which are English-medium), 42 pre-primary schools (28 English medium), 91 hostels, 7 administrative offices, 8 Ashramshalas, 3 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), 52 ancillary branches, and one research institute.

About KBPU Satara

Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil University, Satara, is a Cluster University established by the Government of Maharashtra on 27th October 2021, as per the recommendation of RUSA, MHRD, New Delhi, during the 15th Meeting of the Project Approval Board on 24th January 2019. It was established under the powers conferred by sub-section (6) of Section 3 of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016 (Mah. VI of 2017). The Government of Maharashtra issued a notification for the establishment of this Cluster University on 27th October 2021, setting up “Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil University, Satara” as a cluster comprising Yashavantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara (YCIS) as the lead college, Chhatrapati Shivaji College, Satara (CS) and Dhananjayrao Gadgil College of Commerce, Satara (DG).

About Organizing Institute

Yashavantrao Chavan Institute of Science, Satara (YCIS), is a premier institution and a constituent college of Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil University, Satara. It has been reaccredited with an A+ +grade (CGPA 3.61) by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in its forth cycle. The institute has earned numerous accolades from the Government of India, including: • College with Potential for Excellence status from the University Grants Commission (UGC), • Recognition under the Star College Scheme by the Department of Biotechnology, and • FIST support from the Department of Science and Technology. Additionally, YCIS has received the Best College Award for its NSS Unit from the Government of Maharashtra and Shivaji University, Kolhapur. It has also been honored with the Academic Excellence Award and the Best College Award from Shivaji University and Rayat Shikshan Sanstha, Satara. YCIS has been recognized under the RUSA Excellence Program and granted financial assistance under RUSA Component 8. The institute offers 29 undergraduate (UG), 18 postgraduate (PG), and 11 Ph.D. programs in basic sciences and professional courses. Its robust research facilities, state-of-the-art infrastructure, student-centric amenities, and scholarships foster an academic and research-oriented environment, developing competent citizens. Recently, the institute established a Centre for Invention, Innovation, and Incubation with support from RUSA, Tata Technologies Pvt. Ltd., Singapore, and the Science and Technology Park, Pune. It also founded a Section 8 company named the Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil Research Foundation (KBPRF). Presently, 3820 UG students, 565 PG students from across India (spanning Kerala to Jammu and Kashmir), and 110 Ph.D. research scholars are pursuing their education at YCIS.

About Chemistry Department

The Chemistry Department is the biggest department established in 1958. The department offers a strong foundation in fundamental and applied chemistry, covering major areas such as Organic, Inorganic, Physical, and Analytical Chemistry. Additionally, the department hosts a recognized Research Centre in Chemistry and has highly qualified faculty members, some of whom serve as Ph.D. guides. Well-equipped laboratories provide hands-on training and exposure to modern experimental techniques, ensuring that students gain practical competence alongside theoretical knowledge. Over the past 60 years, the department served in producing hundreds of chemists, educators, researchers, and individuals contributing to the nation's welfare in various capacities. The Department of Chemistry actively promotes research and innovation in emerging and interdisciplinary areas of chemical sciences where research scholars engage in impactful research publications, patents and academic collaborations. The department encourages participation in conferences, workshops, and funded research activities, fostering a vibrant research culture aligned with sustainable and societal needs.

Satara, a historic city and capital of the Maratha Empire, is located in the state of Maharashtra, India. It lies along the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-48), approximately 110 km from Pune.
